This original encaustic mixed-media painting features a vibrant brook trout, one of the most striking freshwater fish in North America. Known for their deep green backs, fiery orange bellies, and electric blue halos around red spots, brook trout are often called the “jewel of coldwater streams.” Native to the Great Lakes region and pristine inland waters, they thrive in cold, clean environments and symbolize wild, untouched places.
Created using molten beeswax, damar resin, and oil pigments, this piece has rich depth and luminous color that shifts beautifully with the light. The trout appears suspended in cool blue water above a textured lakebed. Embedded directly into the wax are real Petoskey stones and natural shoreline sand, adding authentic Great Lakes texture and making the surface dimensional and tactile.
